In your web browser of choice, type in the URL of where you edit your site (also known as the WordPress “Dashboard”) and then enter your credentials to log into the admin.
NOTE: You will need to have ‘administrator’ credentials in order to install this plugin.
On the left hand navigation bar, locate the plugins section and click on that item (or on “Add New” in the pop out menu).
Once the plugin section loads, click on the ‘add new plugin’ button at the top of the page.
Once you have clicked on the add new plugin, the button automatically updates with the option to upload your plugin. Click on that button and move on to the next step.
In the documentation you received via email, there should have been a link to download the latest version of the giftcardgiveback.zip file. If you haven’t downloaded that, please do that now.
Once you have the file on your local PC, click on the “choose file” button and locate the downloaded .zip file and then click “Install Now”.
After you click “Install Now”, the .zip file will get extracted and the plugin will be placed in the WordPress directory. Once that’s done, you’ll need to click the ‘Activate Plugin’ button which will place the Gift Card Give Back tool in your WordPress menu.
When you click on the Gift Card Payments menu item on the left hand side of the screen you’ll be presented with four entry fields.
The “Notification Email From” field is the name that will be attached to all emails coming from the form. You can use “Gift Card Payments” so that when you receive submission notifications, this is the name that appears in your inbox.
The “Notification Email” field is the person in your organization that will be receiving emails from the platform.
The API User and Password both will be in your onboarding email from Gift Card Payments.
That last step was a pretty big one. If you haven’t taken a break, maybe grab yourself a glass of water (and make sure your pets have some, too!)
Once you are feeling like you’ve taken care of yourself, it’s time to move on to the fun (and easy) part.
Now that you’ve knocked out the hard part, we’ve made it easy for you to add the Gift Card Give Back entry form anywhere on your site with this simple shortcode:
show_giftcard_form
You can create a brand new page or add the form to an existing page by copying and pasting that above shortcode into WordPress pages.
Once you enter the shortcode onto a page, simply click the “Update” button and the page will refresh with the form built right in.
Now all that’s left is to let your donors, patrons, and followers know that they can start donating gift cards today!
